Rachel Carson-- Reflection

Choose a scientist that you admire and research more on her.

Research on her work (discipline), training, special interests and skills and her legacy

This is your first BIN entry. Write a reflection and include the following:

What are some of their works that impact our daily lives?
How can I relate to their contribution in their field of expertise?
What traits (habits of mind) do they have that made them remarkable?

I chose Rachel Carson.

She wrote a book, Silent Spring where she challenged the practices of agricultural scientists and the government, and called for a change in the way humankind viewed the natural world.

I admire her for her courage and perseverance in speaking out against the chemical industry and the government.
She helped to remind us that we are a vulnerable part of the natural world subject to the same damage as the rest of the ecosystem. She called for new policies to protect human health and the environment, eventually leading to a nationwide ban on DDT and other pesticides—and the grassroots environmental movement it inspired the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency.
